Betting on the NFC South Winner; Odds, Prediction, and Pick
The NFC South has been one of the better divisions in the NFL for a while now. The New Orleans Saints won the Super Bowl two years ago, the Atlanta Falcons boasted one of the best records in the NFL last year, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are widely considered to be one of the most up and coming teams in the league. So this poses the question of who will win the NFC South? We enter the year with a lot of teams having question marks across the board, but fortunately for sports bettors; the NFC South doesn't seem to have those problems. Sure, the Carolina Panthers are up in the air on who their starting quarterback will be; but don't bet on the team with the worst record in the league to win the division this year. This leaves the Atlanta Falcons, the New Orleans Saints and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for us to choose from.
All three know who their go to players are going to be, with the Saints the only ones who are up in the air on the role of rookie runningback Mark Ingram. The Falcons still have Matt Ryan, the Saints have Drew Brees, and the Bucs have one of the hottest young quarterbacks in the NFL in Josh Freeman, and all three teams have some strong options at the runningback position as well. Overall, this is setting up to be one of the best division races in the league for the upcoming 2011 NFL season.

» Prediction on the NFC South Winner
These odds seem to be about spot on to what one would guess they would be. The Falcons and Saints are the two favorites, the Bucs odds scream "underdog pick", and the Panthers are a long shot to pull off an upset. In the end, I do think it will come down to the Falcons and Saints, just like last year. The difference that I see though is the offense of the Falcons. Matt Ryan has been at the top of his game, and Roddy White is an All-Star. To top it off, they've added Julio Jones to the mix, still have a strong Michael Turner, and added a playmaker in rookie Jacquizz Rodgers. I see the Falcons coming back with a record that could match last year's 13-3 record, and taking down the division.
- Atlanta Falcons: 12-4
- New Orleans Saints: 11-5
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 8-8
- Carolina Panthers: 3-13
» Pick for the 2011 NFC South Champion
We gave away the pick a bit early, but I'm picking the Atlanta Falcons to win the NFC South in 2011. Their combination of offensive firepower, and strong play on defense will make the difference in the end. While I love the coaching situations in the NFC South as well, I think that Mike Smith is out to prove something, especially after a great regular season run last year that ended with a disappointing playoff performance.
- Pick: Atlanta Falcons +120
