Dallas Cowboys vs. Detroit Lions Week 8 NFL Pick
The big talk heading into this matchup Sunday afternoon is Dez Bryant vs. Calvin Johnson. Bryant made remarks earlier in the week that he "can do anything Calvin can do", comments that were clearly taken out of context by the media and converted to "Dez thinks he is better can Calvin". Besides the questionable reporting, the matchup between these two superstar wideouts is still very intriguing.

The two have the same amount of touchdowns this year at 6 apiece, however Bryant leads Johnson in catches (42 to 33) and yards (569 to 492). These two receivers aren't the only facet of this game that are comparable as the offensive and defensive numbers for these teams run very parallel to one another. Dallas' overall scoring this season ranks 3rd in the NFL averaging almost 29 points per game, while Detroit's offense stands at 8th in the NFL, scoring almost 27 points per game.
In terms of defence, Dallas is ranked 16th in the NFL, allowing 22 points per game, while the Lions rank slightly lower at 21st, surrendering 24 points per game. Another comparison for this game? How about Tony Romo vs. Matthew Stafford. Romo has completed 181 passes this season compared to Stafford's 178. Both have found the end zone 15 times this season, while Stafford has thrown for 119 more yards than Romo. The Cowboys' road passing this season ranks 9th in the NFL with Romo throwing for 267 yards on average away from AT&T Stadium, while the Lions home passing ranks 5th in the league with Stafford throwing for 314 yards on average at Ford Field.

In case these two teams weren't matched up closely enough, the two Running Backs featured in this tilt have almost identical numbers so far this season (assuming DeMarco Murray is healthy this week after missing last week's game against the Eagles). Murray has 91 carries this season for 428 yards, 3 touchdowns and an average of 4.7 yards per carry. Reggie Bush has 98 carries this season for 426 yards, 1 touchdown and an average of 4.3 yards per carry.
I'm not sure there is a more evenly matched game on the schedule for Week 8 in the NFL, but I like the Cowboys because of their historic success against Detroit, and I'm getting 3 points to boot. Dallas is 5-2 in their last 7 games against the Lions, and one of those losses Dallas blew a huge halftime lead in October of 2011 and fell by a score of 34-30. Also, Detroit is 2-6 in their last 8 home games. I will take Dallas and the points this week in what should be a very entertaining game from Ford Field in Detroit.
