Kansas City Chiefs vs Detroit Lions, Odds, Prediction, Pick

As we head into week 2 of the 2011 NFL season, one match-up that drew my attention was the Kansas Chiefs heading to Detroit to take on the Lions. The Lions are fresh off of a nice road victory against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, while the Kansas City Chiefs were dominated in week 1 at home against the Buffalo Bills. The Chiefs finished last season with an impressive 10-6 record which was good for a playoff spot. They were unable to live up to that 10 win record, as they were knocked out of the playoffs by the Baltimore Ravens 30-7. The Lions on the other hand, are one of the young up and coming teams in the NFL, and have been mentioned as a possible playoff team in 2011. They took down a solid Bucs team in week one by a touchdown, and were led by some very impressive play from quarterback Matt Stafford, who threw for 305 yards and 3 touchdowns.

The Chiefs are led by an excellent running back in Jamaal Charles, who they actually only gave the ball to 10 times in week. If the Chiefs want to get back in winning form, they'll need to continue to give the ball to Charles as much as possible. The Lions have been talked about in a big way, as they have a strong three headed monster in Stafford, wide out Calvin Johnson, and running back Jahvid Best. If these three can stay healthy all year and continue to play at a high level; they may do more than just make the playoffs, and they could be in for a potential playoff run. Let's take a look at this week 2 match-up between the Chiefs and Lions in terms of their sports betting odds.

No one seems to want to believe in this Lions team just yet, but it'll be time to start believing after this weekend. The Lions are an impressive squad, and are one of the best coached teams in the league by head coach Jim Schwartz. The Chiefs looked awful in week 1, and were completely dominated by the Bills. They were unable to stop the Bills on defense, and couldn't move the ball on offense. To make matters worse for the Chiefs, they lost their starting safety Eric Berry to injury, and will be without him for the remainder of the year. I see the Lions jumping all over the Chiefs and taking this one down by more than 10.

The Lions first home game is going to be a bit crazy in terms of their fans, and I think home field advantage will definitely play a role in this one as well. The Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel will struggle against this new look Lions defense, and could be in for a very long day. I like Matt Stafford to have a big day and lead his Lions team to a win, and for them to cover the -9. I'm picking the Detroit Lions here.

  • Pick: Detroit Lions -9
