Oregon is following up one of the most successful seasons in their school's history. The Ducks finished 12-1 and were Pac-10 champions. Their lone loss came against Auburn in the National Championship Game, and the Ducks hope to get back to the big game again. Oregon returns their two key players on offense in running back LaMichael James and quarterback Darron Thomas. These two led a team that averaged almost 50 points a game last season. James finished third in Heisman voting in 2010 and is one of the preseason favorites to win the prestigious award in 2011.
As for LSU, they experienced a very successful season of their own. LSU finished 11-2 and went 6-2 in the SEC. They were invited to the Cotton Bowl and went on to defeat Texas A&M convincingly 41-24. LSU has a very good defense, even after losing star cornerback Patrick Peterson to the NFL. Quarterback Jordan Jefferson enters the season as a question mark for the Tigers though. Jefferson has a great amount of potential and it seems like every season he is poised to have a breakout season. It hasn't happened yet but if he does break out; Jefferson, paired with the strong defense of the Tigers, could make a big time run this season.

Both teams should have very successful seasons but neither team wants to start the season off with a loss. Oregon has had a long offseason, dealing with allegations and players having off field issues, and I think these issues will affect them right out of the gate and I see LSU getting the victory. I think this is the season that Jordan Jefferson really steps his game up and the Tigers will have a productive offense to go along with the their dominate defense.

LSU thrived in close games last season; I see this being one of those games. LSU has a national championship caliber team and I think they will get off to good start by beating Oregon. LSU is the underdog at +2 so if they win the game, they also cover the spread. I see LSU winning this tight match-up by a late field goal or touchdown. I'm picking the LSU Tigers.
Pick: LSU Tigers +2
