Miami Dolphins vs New York Jets Odds, Prediction, and Pick

The Monday Night Football match-up of week 6 of the 2011 NFL season features two teams from the AFC East who have failed to live up to expectations this season. While the Miami Dolphins are currently winless at 0-4, some people may actually consider the New York Jets to be the bigger disappointment to this point in the season. The Jets are sitting at 2-3, and have now lost three games in a row. The Jets need to rebound in this home game on Monday Night against the Dolphins in order to keep up with the AFC East which has two teams sitting at 4-1 currently. Both of these teams have struggled, and don't seem to be showing many signs of life after losing a combined 7 games in a row.

The Jets' struggles have come from many different places, but it starts with the below average offensive play, as well as quarterback Mark Sanchez struggling to get rid of the ball when needed. Their defense, which was widely considered to be one of the best in the NFL before the season, has given up 25 points per game this season. Rex Ryan is going to need to get his bunch going in order to catch the Patriots and Bills atop the division.

And what about the Dolphins' struggles? Things only got worse after they lost their starting quarterback Chad Henne to a season-ending shoulder injury, and the Fins' have been struggling all over the place. The Dolphins now turn over the starting quarterback job to Matt Moore, who came over from Carolina this past offseason. The only bright spot for this Miami team comes from rookie running back Daniel Thomas, who has averaged 4.9 yards per carry.

This is an interesting game, and it's going to be a game that will tell a story of the rest of the Jets' season. New York hasn't been able to keep pace with anyone since week 2, and if they want to prove that they are a playoff team, they'll have to come out and be all over the Miami Dolphins. I like the Jets at home, in front of a crowd who will be ready to go on Monday Night Football, and a coach who will definitely get his team fired up for this game. I'm taking the Jets to win it by ten here at home.

The Dolphins passing game is going to struggle against this Jets secondary, and I think that'll be a major difference in this game. While the Jets defense has been below average lately, I think they'll be able to contain this Dolphins team and pull out the big home win. I'm picking the New York Jets to not only win, but cover the -7 as well.

  • Pick: New York Jets -7
