Miami Heat vs. Brooklyn Nets Preview, Prediction, and Pick

There have been some excellent games this year in the NBA through the month of January, but to round out the month, we have a game that should be a close one and features some of the bigger names in the NBA. In this game on Wednesday, January 30th, the Miami Heat are heading on the road to take on the Brooklyn Nets in their brand new arena. This game is going to feature the likes of Lebron James, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh (or the Big Three), as well as players like Deron Williams, Brook Lopez, Joe Johnson, and some other talented players on both sides of the ball. Through the 23rd of the month, the Heat have put together a solid record of 27-12, but have struggled on the road going 10-9. The Nets on the other side are 26-16, and 16-7 at home. In terms of the standings, Miami is holding onto that top spot in the East, while the Nets are just 2.5 games back in 3rd. Tip off for this one is at 8:00pm EST and the game will be on ESPN.

Obviously there are some great match-up's to watch, but one match-up you'll always have to watch is whoever Lebron James is up against when he's in the game. Lebron is an incredible talent and can take over a game whenever he wants. Lebron, Wade, and Bosh are all clicking well right now, but going into Brooklyn to take on the Nets could be a different beast. The Heat are going to need to figure out these road struggles, and getting a win in Brooklyn would be a nice start to that.

The Nets on the other side have started to turn things around since making a coaching change from Avery Johnson. Johnson just couldn't seem to catch a break with this team, and new coach P.J. Carlesimo has them with a record of 9-1 in their last ten games. This has the city of Brooklyn revved up and excited about the Nets and their future with their own big three in Williams, Lopez, and Johnson. If the team keeps playing like this then it's likely that they are going to be able to make some noise in the playoffs and possibly make a nice run as well.

I am very worried about the Heat and their road record this season. A 10-9 road record isn't something that really has me excited about their chances to repeat as NBA Champions. I expect that Lebron and company are going to get it turned around and going in the right direction before long though, but the question is when this will happen. The fans in Brooklyn are going to be excited for this game against the defending champs, and I expect the Nets to be ready to roll as well. It's going to be a tight game but I'm taking the Nets to win it by five when all is said and done.

  • Prediction: Brooklyn Nets- 95 Miami Heat- 90
