NFL Week 1 Betting: San Diego Chargers vs Oakland Raiders Pick, Prediction, and Odds
Each week in the NFL, you'll find that some of the most intriguing match-ups come on Monday Night Football. This definitely stands true for the week one Monday night games, including the San Diego Chargers against the Oakland Raiders. These are two AFC West rivals here, and they are going to be playing the late Monday night game in Oakland, which kicks off at 10:15pm EST. It's expected to be a close game, mainly since both teams have a few question marks that they are hoping to get answered to start off the 2012-2013 NFL season.
For the San Diego Chargers, they unfortunately lost starting running back Ryan Mathews to an injury on his first touch of the preseason, and he'll be out for this game against Oakland. This means that the running game will be on Ronnie Brown, but the Chargers are probably going to stick with their pass-happy offense more than likely and let Philip Rivers air it out. Rivers will need to avoid the early season turnovers that he suffered last season, and the Chargers are going to need Rivers to be on top of his game, especially until Mathews returns from injury.

As far as the Oakland Raiders go, it's going to be Carson Palmer all the way for them. Palmer was by no means over the top impressive last year when he came from from the Cincinnati Bengals in that trade, but this is his second year in the system. Palmer will also need to avoid throwing as many interceptions as last year, but I expect the Raiders to rely heavily on running back Darren McFadden in this game. McFadden is going to be their man, and if he can avoid injury then I think that the Raiders have one of the best running backs in the entire NFL.

I love rivalry games at any point in the season, but week one match-ups mean that we could see some fireworks. I'm expecting a close game throughout in this one, and I really think that it could come down to a late fourth quarter score to decide the game. With that being said, I am leaning with the home team in this one. I also think that the Raiders defense is going to be able to force some key turnovers from Rivers, and it'll end up making a big difference when all is said and done. Let's go with the Raiders to win this one by three.
Prediction: Oakland Raiders- 27 San Diego Chargers- 24
