» Tennis Odds and Betting Types

Straight bets are the most common type of tennis bet offered out there. The idea behind a straight bet, is just to pick the winner of the match. Now of course the odds on a straight bet will vary quite a bit depending on which player is favored. You could be in a situation where you really like one player, but the odds might not pay out very well due to the fact that he or she is a big favorite. An example of a straight bet in tennis is if Andy Roddick was taking on Sam Querrey, Roddick may be a favorite of -300, while Querrey's odds might be +260. This means that if you were to bet on Roddick you would have to bet $30 to win $10 back, which is quite a heavy favorite. Betting on Querrey on the other hand, as the underdog, would mean that you would only have to bet $10 to win $26.

You also have the option of betting on a tennis player to win an event or tournament before the tournament begins. This bet is much harder to hit, but the payout is much higher as well. Each player in the event will be listed with their odds to win the event, but you typically will also get a "field" option. The field option covers any player who is not listed by name. So if you decided that you wanted to bet on Novak Djokovic to win Wimbledon before the tournament, the odds may be something like +650, meaning that for every $10 you bet, you would win $65. These odds are obviously very good, but this bet can be tough to hit, as Djokovic would have to beat every other player and win the major.

Prop bets are the other type of popular tennis bet available. A tennis prop bet is typically a bet on how long a tennis match will last, in terms of how many sets. So if Djokovic was taking on Mardy Fish, and Djokovic is a -450 favorite to win the match, you could place a bet on how many total sets it would take for Djokovic to win the match. So if you bet only three sets (a sweep), then the odds may be something like -200. You also have the option of betting on Djokovic to win in 4 or 5 sets, or even for Fish to win the match in a certain number of sets (which has a much higher payout).

» Betting Strategy for Tennis Betting

Right off the bat when you are betting on matches or one of the four Grand Slams, the most important thing to do is to research which players excel on the surface the tournament is played on, and which players struggle on it. Just because a player is a great player on grass, doesn't make them an excellent player on clay. Another thing to remember when betting on tennis, is to be careful about how heavy a favorite is that you are betting on. In the long run, betting on a player who is -400 or -450 isn't typically a profitable bet, so always look for good spots and angles on the matches. Last but not least, is to bet place a bet or two on the player(s), that you think can win the event. The payout on this bet is very good, and with odds that are so good, you can even bet on 2, 3, and even 4 different players, and still make a profit in the end as long as one of them wins the tournament.

As you can see, there are a few very good options when it comes to tennis betting, but the most important thing about tennis betting, and betting in general; is to remember to always do your research. You can find some great angles and great betting options if you research your bets before hand.
